International Education Day
This is a
kind reminder that in its capacity as official partner of the United Nations
Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation’s (UNESCO), on International
Day of Education, 24 January 2022 at 9am, 3pm and 9pm (CET), GWI will host
three focus groups inspired by UNESCO’s Futures of Education Focus Group Guidelines.
This year
the theme is "Changing Course, Transforming Education". As
detailed in UNESCO's recent global report on 'The Futures of Education',
transforming the future requires an urgent rebalancing of the way we relate to
each other, to nature and to the technology that permeates our lives, bringing
us innovative opportunities while at the same time posing serious challenges to
equity, inclusion and democratic participation.
This year's
International Education Day will be a platform to showcase the most important
transformations that need to take place to realize the fundamental right of all
to education and build a more sustainable, inclusive and peaceful future. It
will generate debate on how to strengthen education as a public and common
good, how to lead the digital transformation, support teachers, safeguard the
planet and unleash the potential of every individual to contribute to
collective well-being and our shared home.
UNESCO, a
founding partner of the Learning Planet Festival since 2020, will join the
celebrations for its third edition from January 22-27. More than 250 partners
will also participate in this year's online and face-to-face activities around
the world.
